Paul first dreamed of living a life of music after seeing KISS on the Paul Lynde Halloween special in 3rd grade. His first band, at age 12, was called the Midnight Ramblers and had exactly one gig. After logging time in high school and college bands with names like Osiris, Nimoy, and Fred, Paul finally went pro, logging six years, three albums, more than 900 shows in 17 states and numerous unconsummated label offers with nationally-touring groove-rockers The Strangers.

Paul next settled into the Northwest music scene, fronting Eugene, Oregon-based Isor Wallobee and doing annual gigs with The Floydian Slips, a Pink Floyd tribute band, before hooking up with Portland's colorfield on the recommendation of ex-Stranger Bart Ferguson.

colorfield shared stages with Storm Large and The Balls, Luce, The Motels, The Gin Blossoms, Berlin and Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket. The band was asked to be the backing musicians for Grammy winning Train founder Rob Hotchkiss for his solo debut at Northwest Music Fest 2005. Songs from the band’s latest CD, simply titled ‘colorfield,’ aired on Portland radio KINK and KNRK.

The Floydian Slips are on a 13-year run as the Northwest's premiere Pink Floyd tribute band, consistently selling out Eugene and Portland venues. In February 2010, the band performed The Dark Side of the Moon with the Eugene Ballet in front of 4,500 people over two performances at the Hult Center in Eugene.

Paul also backs up Nashville alt-country rocker Matt Vrba, playing lead at Matt's Portland shows, and does a fair amount of local solo acoustic performances as well.

Other recent endeavors include a power trio cover band called Flat Stanley whose tag line is "We're like your iPod on shuffle. Only louder." Paul and Flat Stanley do songs you've heard but not 1,000 times. No Brown Eyed Girl or Mustang Sally. Instead you get The White Room (Cream), Trains (Porcupine Tree) and U2's Bad.

Shouldn't It Be Different

Here is the third and final preview track from my new CD. This song is the first and only song I have ever written to a drum loop. It is also the last song recorded and finished for the project, therefore it is currently one of my favorites (meaning, I am not totally sick of it). Thanks to everyone for the nice comments and for sharing these songs with your friends. The Web makes that easy, doesn't it? Have a great long weekend, and Tuesday morning I will post a link to the whole 12-song CD with artwork etc. Enjoy!

Voices

Here is the second sneak peek track from my upcoming CD. This one is a little more moody, maybe a bit Floydish (Pink that is), and has probably my favorite guitar solo I have ever laid down on a recording. David Kendall and Mike Budd from my other band colorfield are on drums and bass. I do the rest on this one. The full 12-song CD will be available next Tuesday - details to follow. Enjoy!

Wondering Why

This is a sneak peek track from Paul's upcoming CD, A Fear of Flashing Light. It's probably the oldest song on the CD, written in 1989 but just recorded this year. Two of Paul's former bandmates from The Strangers are on the song - Bart Ferguson on backing vocals, and Ned Failing on drums. Mike Budd from Paul's bands colorfield and Flat Stanley is on bass. The whole CD will be available on June 1.
